Essential Canine Life Skills has become the newest member of the UK Dog Behaviour & Training Charter, joining its collaboration of ethical organisations working to support professional standards across dog training and behaviour.
Led by founder and head trainer Emma Jane, Essential Canine Life Skills provides dog training and education focused on helping owners better understand, communicate with and build strong relationships with their dogs.
The organisation began as Essex Dog Training in 2012 before becoming Essential Canine Life Skills Ltd in 2021. Its mission is to educate as many dog owners as possible and help reduce the number of dogs entering rescue through a lack of knowledge.
Announcing its newest member, the UK Dog Behaviour & Training Charter said:
“Essential Canine Life Skills provides professional, ethical and practical dog training and education, focused on building understanding, communication and strong partnerships between dogs and their owners.”
The Charter also highlighted Essential Canine Life Skills’ commitment to continuing professional development, evidence-informed practice and maintaining high standards, describing the organisation as “a great fit with the Charter standards and ethics.”
What does joining the Charter mean?
The UK dog training and behaviour industry is currently unregulated, meaning there is no single statutory system governing who can work as a dog trainer or behaviour professional.
The UK Dog Behaviour & Training Charter brings together professional membership organisations under a shared code of conduct, ethics and methodology.
Organisations seeking Charter membership must meet a series of requirements. These include accrediting and monitoring their professional members, maintaining transparent complaints procedures and adhering to the Charter’s position on training methods and equipment.
By joining the Charter, Essential Canine Life Skills becomes part of this wider industry framework, alongside other organisations seeking greater consistency and accountability across the dog training and behaviour profession.
